Part of our back yard is above an untended area or as my husband Bruce likes to refer to it, our "natural habitat." And of course, living in the "natural habitat" are all kinds of critters, including ground squirrels, raccoons, possums, coyotes, foxes, cottontail rabbits, roof rats and many, many different kinds of birds. When they begin to voraciously devour all our vegetable and fruit bounty, these sweet (except for rats), fuzzy or feathered critters quickly turn into varmints. Hoping to deter the varmints, we have turned more and more to gardening in containers with protective cages and netting and these past two weeks, Bruce has added two raised beds for our squashes and melons. In a future GardenLife newsletter, I will share the how-to details of putting together a raised bed. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
