No jewels or fancy perfume for me...

My family understands that I am not interested in pricey perfumes, boutique jewelry or shi-shi designer wear - they know I love anything that has to do with gardening. After several not-so-subtle hints, my Mother's Day gift is a worm composter (or as my son likes to say, "mom is into worm poop") and I am so excited! It is a kit consisting of 3 trays, a spigot for the "worm tea," a brick of coir for the worm bed and 4-legs to keep the composter off the ground. As you have probably guessed, I couldn't wait for Mother's Day to set it up and I now have about 900 red squiggly worms comfortably housed in their new home with cuisinart-ground food and a couple of handfuls of Denali Gold (a rich humus to help increase the biology of the worm medium and add some grit to their diet) and topped with shredded, moist newspaper to keep them warm and comfy. Between my outdoor garden compost tumbler and my worm composter, very little kitchen waste will be sent out in the garbage or down the garbage disposal. This gift is just the best! Who knew worms could make me so happy?!!?
