Australian Finger Lime and Juice Vesicles

Citrus australasica, aka Australian Finger Lime, is a very thorny small tree or shrub endemic to Queensland and New South Wales, Australia.  It bears small, elongated and slightly curved fruits that come in different colors, depending on the variety, of green, red, black, yellow, orange, brown or purple. The reason I had to grow one in my garden is when sliced, globular juice vesicles pop out and can be used as a garnish, served in drinks or added to recipes. When chewed, a kind of effervescent, tangy taste bursts onto your taste buds leaving a definite lime flavor in your mouth. Nick-named "lime caviar," I am growing it in a large container and care for it just like any other citrus. Its peel can be dried and used as a kind of flavoring spice, but my preference is to serve it fresh. Doesn't it look awesome? And it has a refreshing, citrus taste too!
