Don't Make Lemonade from Pink Lemonade

Last year, John gave me a tiny plant in a 4" pot and promised that it would bear pink blueberries! As the months passed, the little thing began bearing lovely pinkish-white flowers and after I transplanted it into a 5-gallon clay pot, it began to grow and grow and look! it has 3 pink blueberries. Actually I had 7, except for a certain scrub jay who has been plucking them off one-by-one, but I did manage to eat one and it is delectably sweet! Introduced by Briggs Nursery, the 'Pink Lemonade' blueberry is hardy to USDA Zone 4 and is doing very well in my USDA Zone 10! If planting in a container, use an organic potting soil such as Whitney Farms Azalea,Camellia, Rhododendron Planting Mix because blueberries need an acidic soil pH of 4.5-5.5 and fertilize with cottonseed meal. It will grow to about 4-5 ft. tall with a 3-4 ft. spread, self-pollinates and in the spring bears lovely flowers, produces bold pink berries in the summer and fiery orange-red foliage in the fall. Pink Lemonade is candy for the eye and for the palate!
