Rules My Cat Has Taught Me

Cat owners will agree that humans never own their cats, it is the reverse. Meeyou, a female Himalayan, was a gift from our son because he and his family were moving into a small condominium with no room for her. Once she became accustomed to us, she decided that we "belonged" to her and needed to be "trained" properly. Himalayans are commonly called "Himmies" and are crosses between Persian and Siamese breeds - long, silky fur, piercing blue eyes and contrasting point coloration on the face mask, ears, tail and paws. Like all Himmies, she is very sweet-tempered, smart, playful, talkative (though not as loud as Siamese) and affectionate. The following are Meeyou's rules and as it has turned out, they have actually been positive life lessons for my husband and I.
  1. Seek out rays of sunshine for warmth and joy
  2. Be entertained by the simplest of pleasures including watching a butterfly fluttering by or listening to the lyrics of a songbird
  3. Give and receive affection
  4. Groom regularly
  5. Take naps when tired to live a long, happy life
