Flights of Fancy and Thanksgiving Wishes
While strolling around the lovely village of Fairhope, Alabama, I happened upon this sign and after reading it, I knew its message needed to be shared with you. The last line reads, "Be Yourself." A few days later, I was watching the sun sparkles bouncing off the reflective waters at Mobile Bay when at the corner of my eye, a flutter of orange gracefully wafted by carried on a warm breeze and drifting toward a dense clump of brilliant marigolds. Following its lead, I came upon a large group of monarch butterflies dancing, dipping and resting on the pillowed marigold flower heads. By the end of October, the monarchs east of the Rocky Mountains usually migrate to the pine-oak forests in Mexico, but now it is mid-November and still this population chooses to remain amongst Mobile's brilliant scarlet and tangerine flowers. Perhaps the sign in Fairhope foretold the message of these monarchs: they were definitely "bold, quiet, original, punctual yet spontaneous, unique, daring, young stars and just a bit crazy" for tarrying past their migration date. Because I had the opportunity to see them being themselves in their flights of fancy, they taught me those lessons on the sign and I have taken them to heart with gratitude. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.
