A HANDFUL OF BIG ZAC!

This week I have been tending to my neglected grafted Mighty 'Matos - taking off the dead foliage, removing sucker growth and harvesting more fruits. To reach the tops of the 8' tomato cages, I got on a ladder and to my surprise, there was a giant Big Zac peeking out from a tangled mass of foliage and dangling precariously from the top of the mesh cage. Minnie Zaccaria successfully bred the Big Zac and was able to raise 5 to 6 pound behemoths by disbudding most of the flowers on each plant. Since I allowed all the flowers to remain on my plant, the bulk of my Big Zac crop were in the 1 to 2 pound range, impressive, but no where near Minnie's record Big Zacs. This giant 4-pounder filling both of my hands developed despite my preference for quantity rather than weight! Sometimes no matter how you raise your plants, they seem to have a "mind" of their own and surprise you; much like beloved children.
